Private estate in Devon

Estate Manager, Simon Wood, first contacted us in November 2020 to plant 30 large parkland trees in the grounds of a private estate in Devon. We visited the site and met Simon to discuss his requirements. We could see immediately that delivery was going to be tricky. No arctic lorry could pass the narrow lanes of the Devon countryside leading to the project site! Some of the trees were 10m long, so we had to find another way to bring them in. But, we love a challenge!

We overcame the problem by liaising with several nurseries to deliver the trees to a suitable lay-by, two miles from the site. From there the trees were unloaded using a 12 m telehandler, lifted onto a tractor with long flatbed trailer, and transported with great care to the site. On arrival, a second telehandler unloaded the trees ready for delivery to the planting site. It took the team several days to get all the trees on site.

Planting was to be across many different locations on the estate, and the ground was wet. To protect the landscape we used a Morooka tracked vehicle. The Morooka worked very well, we completed the planting and can honestly say we hardly left a mark.

Our plans and meticulous attention to detail paid off and we created an instant parkland we’re proud of.

I used Nature First for a couple of substantial planting programmes involving large, semi-mature trees and shrubs.  They handled everything from supply, transport, planting and aftercare, as well as all the logistics and skills involved.  Their advice and knowledge on suitability and availability was second to none and everything was carried out in a professional, friendly and efficient manner.  I wouldn’t hesitate to use their services again and I thoroughly recommend them!
